San Diego River Park Field Trip
Levels 5 & 6 held their annual Used Book Sale and earned over $300. Each year students agree on a good cause to receive these funds. This year we chose a community service project as the benefactor. We were able to purchase native plants for the San Diego River Park foundation Nature Preserve. The students worked at the Mission Valley site for two hours. They selected and planted native plants, removed non-natives, and built rock borders for the trails. A highlight of the visit was viewing the river. We saw an enormous frog in the SD River. The students learned more about the recovery efforts to make the San Diego River healthier and more accessible to the community. Families are encouraged to visit the SD River Park Nature Preserve. It is accessed at the West End of the Mission Valley YMCA west parking lot. Their website is www.sandiegoriver.org.
